Sophos Anti-Virus continues global expansion

New office opened in Japan

Sophos Anti-Virus, the world's leading developer of corporate virus protection, today announced the opening of its new office in Yokohama, Japan, in response to increasing demand for its superior products and expertise. The Japanese office represents a further step in the global expansion of Sophos.

Alan Broderick, formerly Head of International Development at Sophos, has been appointed as Managing Director of the new subsidiary. With his extensive experience in this area, Broderick will be at the forefront of Japanese operations, providing sales and technical support to Sophos customers and partners in Japan and neighbouring countries.

"It is important in Japan to have a local presence where support can be given from close proximity to the market," said Alan Broderick, Managing Director of Sophos Japan. "By working with partners on an hour by hour basis, the new office will meet the high demand in Asia for our products and continue the outstanding level of support we provide."

Sophos has built its reputation from an immensely strong and loyal customer base. Overseas sales now account for over 60% of the worldwide turnover of the company. Asia is seen as a key strategic market for Sophos, and sales have been increasing rapidly for several years. Key investments have been made in Japan and Australia, with China and Singapore on the short-term horizon.

Sophos is currently planning new offices in a number of locations around the world and will recruit over 100 new staff in its technical, sales and marketing departments this financial year to accommodate the huge growth in demand for its products. Sophos is also in the process of building an additional high-security research and development centre, totaling over 150,000 square feet at its global headquarters in Abingdon, UK.
