Sophos, a global leader in computer anti-virus protection for businesses, has been officially selected to protect the 56th Cannes Film Festival's computer networks from viruses. The film festival, one of the world's most prestigious global events, is visited by over 30,000 cinema buffs and, this year, will also welcome the 25 European ministers for Culture and Arts.

Sophos's flagship product, Sophos Anti-Virus will be installed on all 300 workstations scattered around the festival and kept up to date with Enterprise Manager, the Sophos distribution tool that ensures the automated download of latest available virus protection. The press room, which consists of a further 40 computers, will also be running Sophos Anti-Virus and Enterprise Manager.

With 52 screenings, of which 40 are world premieres, it is paramount to ensure a virus-free environment for the festival.

"In the past, we have suffered from two separate virus incidents," explained Cedric Lemoigne, IT manager for the Cannes festival. "Specifically, we became infected with the infamous LoveBug, which rendered all our image files unusable."

"With all eyes on Cannes from the 14th May, the organisers simply cannot risk any type of technical hitch," says Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at Sophos Anti-Virus. "The Cannes Film Festival has been hit by viruses before, proving that even the most glamorous need anti-virus protection."

Sophos Anti-Virus is a complete anti-virus solution with network functionality at its core. It was designed specifically for the business network and offers an easily updated, flexible business solution for managing the complexity of networks from small local area networks to large multi-server, multi-platform WANs.
