The threat of image spam explored in latest Sophos podcast

Mark Harris
SophosLabs director Mark Harris talks about the threat posed by image spam.

Sophos, a world leader in protecting businesses against computer threats, today announced that it has published a new podcast discussing the growth of image spam, and what email users can do to protect themselves.

With phishing attacks becoming more sophisticated and widespread, customers of banks are facing a serious dilemma when it comes to internet banking.

In the podcast, entitled "Picture this: Fighting image spam", Mark Harris, Global Director of SophosLabs™, is interviewed by Carole Theriault about the tactics spammers employ to evade spam filters and offers some advice to organizations struggling to deal with the problem.

"Many people will have seen a rise in unwanted email using embedded graphics to either market goods or try and inflate a stock price illegally," said Carole Theriault, host of the Sophos podcast. "Spammers are using image spam to try and slip past less sophisticated anti-spam filters. In this podcast, Mark Harris explains the techniques used by spammers, and how Sophos is fighting against them."

All Sophos podcasts are available for download at www.sophos.com/podcasts. Previous podcasts have covered topics such as phishing, Microsoft Windows Vista, corporate security policies, rootkits, and the latest trends in viruses and spam.
