Rob Forsyth, Managing Director for Sophos Asia, a leader in IT security and control, has been re-appointed to the Internet Industry Association (IIA) Board of Directors for the third consecutive year.
At the Annual General Meeting held last night in Sydney, Rob Forsyth was named Deputy Chairman of the IIA for 2007.
The IIA, Australia's national internet industry organisation, provides policy input to government and advocacy on a range of business and regulatory issues, promoting laws and initiatives which enhance the internet industry within Australia.
Rob Forsyth joined Sophos Australia in 2001 and was appointed to the role of Managing Director for Sophos's Asia Pacific operations in January 2006. He remains based in Sydney.
Prior to joining Sophos, Forsyth spent five years with the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG) as workforce planning and industrial relations program manager, where he was in charge of, more than 180,000 paid, volunteer and contract positions.
Sophos is a key participant in a number of IIA initiatives including the "GetNetSafe" scheme, which combines education and technology assistance to help internet users better understand and combat spam, viruses and spyware. The "GetNetSafe" scheme provides users with access to trial downloads of specialised security software from vendors, including Sophos, with the aim of increasing protection among Australia's internet community.
"Rob's re-appointment to the IIA Board of Directors reinforces his position as a key member of Australia's internet industry," said Peter Coroneos, Chief Executive of the Internet Industry Association. "With a Federal election approaching, Rob's experience within the security sector will add considerable value to the Association’s thought leadership on key internet industry issues."
Commenting on his appointment, Rob Forsyth, said, "During my tenure on the IIA’s Board, I have greatly enjoyed working alongside some of Australia's leading internet industry figures. Together, we have represented the legal, regulatory, technical and commercial interests of the industry. In 2007, the IIA will continue to encourage change with the aim of strengthening the global presence of Australia's internet market."
