Sophos announces support for Cavium Networks' OCTEON multi-core MIPS64 processor family

Sophos, a world leader in IT security and control solutions, announces the availability of SAV Interface for Cavium Networks' (NASDAQ:CAVM) OCTEON multi-core MIPS64 processor family. By making Sophos Anti-Virus's scanning engine available for these processors, OEM vendors using Cavium's high-performance network hardware can safeguard all network traffic from the latest viruses, worms, Trojan horses and spyware.

Cavium Networks is a leading provider of highly integrated semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, storage and security applications.

“OCTEON is being used by a number of networking, telecom and wireless equipment OEMs,” said Amer Haider, director of strategic marketing, Cavium Networks. “We are pleased to work with Sophos to offer OEMs an excellent and ready-to-use Anti-Virus solution on our OCTEON processor family.”

Arkoon, a leading provider of Unified Threat Management (UTM) appliances that run Cavium OCTEON processor family, will soon offer Sophos's scanning capabilities on their appliances.

"We are pleased to see that Sophos, a company with a proven reputation for technical excellence in the malware field, developed their interface for these Cavium processors," said David Dupre, marketing manager at Arkoon. "This partnership combines best-of-breed technologies, ensuring seamless interoperability and easy management."

SAV Interface enables users of a wide range of stand-alone industry-standard applications to benefit from high-speed integration with the Sophos virus-detection engine. Compliant gateway appliances can monitor email, web and FTP traffic, protecting against malware in real time using a single, resource-efficient scanner. SAV Interface uses innovative technologies such as Behavioral Genotype to provide protection against both known and previously unseen "zero-day" threats.

Sophos can protect Linux-based operating systems using Cavium Octeon processors. Sophos has over 50 OEM partners taking advantage of Sophos antivirus protection technology within hardware, software and managed service solutions.
